Minimal Summer Makeup

I posted this photo in my Stories recently and received a lot of questions about which products I used, so I thought I would post a comprehensive list of all the goodness.

First of all, if you haven't gotten your hands on the Overnight Peel that I've been raving about... DO IT!  It's such a gamechanger for your skin, which means LESS MAKEUP.  And I don't know about you, but when it's scorching outside - the last thing I want to do is wear heavy makeup.  I literally keep forgetting to wear makeup because I'm so happy with how my skin looks!

On this day, I had used the PEEL two days before.  My skin was still great and I just needed minimal makeup to enhance my look.  I originally posted the photo to rave about my new BLUSH because I loved how natural it was.  And it's such a great color that you can wear with anything because it doesn't lean too far into any hue.  It was great with my bright pink dress!

Here are the goods:

Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation in Paper Thin - applied with my Beautyblender.  I love this foundation for it's beautiful finish and buildable coverage.

Beautycounter Touchup Concealer in Light - Just the right amount of coverage and not-too-matte for undereyes

Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Desired Glow - The blush that goes with everything.  A little tawny/bronzey with a hint of pink.  A blush you can wear when you dress in pink ;)  I apply with my Beautyblender.

Beautycounter Eyeliner in Black - Doesn't smudge and lasts for hours.

Kjaer Weis Eyeshadow in Magnetic - Beautiful coppery, bronzey color with subtle shimmer

Honest Co Mascara + Primer - I love this mascara for the primer!  Helps my barely there lashes stand out!

MY FAVORITE NEW HIGHLIGHTER: RMS Luminizer in Champagne Rose - It's the most natural highlighter I've ever used.  Just looks like dewy skin!

Kari Gran Lip Whip in Pink Tinted - My go-to lip balm!

Innersense Pure Harmony Hairbath Shampoo + Innersense Pure Inspiration Daily Conditioner

Lip Colors to Wear Right Now

lip colors to wear right now

These are the actual lipcolors that I'm loving right now.  The not-too-holiday and the not-too-spring colors.  They look good on skin that hasn't seen the sun in months.  And super moisturizing, of course!

For me, January is about doing the things that I wanted to do around the holidays, but I was too busy!  Reading books, watching movies, squeezing into a pub booth with good friends!  January is less about events and more  about being present.  I also feel hopeful in January - the start of another year to get right, the things I was getting wrong in the past year.

For a January lipcolor, I like warm nudes or light, happy pinks that make it look like I've been out in the cold.  You also need a good red.  Because every month needs a good red.  Since we've been seeing so much red with holiday decor, I love a warmer tone that doesn't feel like a leftover holiday color.  RMS Beauty just released their Wild with Desire Lipsticks and 'Rapture' is the perfect warm red for right now.

How to apply lipcolor:

The first thing about applying lip color is to have a smooth surface on your lips and to moisturize before applying the color.  There is the PERFECT product that does both - exfoliating and moisturizing.  This is a year-round prep for your lips, but I ESPECIALLY need it in the colder months.  The Henne Organics Rose Diamonds Lip Exfoliator is a STAPLE for every makeup bag.  Get it now and thank me later.

Next, carefully and evenly apply lipcolor.  The best way to do this is with a lip brush.  I was never a believer before.  I just felt like a lip brush was 'extra' or people were trying to be too fancy.  Trust me.  It makes all of the difference for even application.  You can also skip a separate lip liner if you use one.  Although, I love lip liner.  So, if you really want a perfect lip.  Use one.  I carry a nude with me everywhere because I can drag the lip color up to the lip line with it.  It works for just about every color.  But, it's also great to have a go-to red like this one.

Without further ado, these are the lipcolors to wear right now.

Swatched in the photo above, from left to right:

Kosas in 'Rosewater' - a little 'rosie' in color and the perfect 'i just stepped in from the cold' look (obvi, i love the name!)

Spela in 'Flirt' -  matte pinky-nude perfection.

100% Pure Matte Lipstick in 'Pink Canyon' - a darker, pinker nude that will take you right into spring

Spela in 'Spa Day' - a pink-brown matte nude a la Kardashian

RMS in 'Rapture' - the red to wear right now.  warm and bright all at the same time.

I also love these products for lips:

Henne Lip Tint in 'Bare' - on-the-go, wear to the gym, moisturizing and so slick

100% Pure Creamy Long Last Lip Liner - pinky-nude lipliner that works with just about any lipcolor

Lip Diamonds - the must have lip exfoliator to prep your lips for color

Lip brush - for the most even application

My Winter Skin Savers

I REALLY STRUGGLE WITH...

I really struggle with finding the right combination of moisturizers that won't weigh my skin down in the wintertime.  I feel like I have my skin in a pretty good place this season and have even left the house the past two days with no makeup on.  Here's what I've been using:

- Masking with Little Barn Apothecary Calendula + Lycopene Hydrating Mask, Mild Exfoliant.  One very important element of skincare is exfoliation.  You want to constantly slough off dry skin, so that your skin has to naturally work to rejuvenate itself and create new skin.  That's how you can look your best and brightest.  However, it's difficult for me to take any sort of grainy product to my face when it's dry - that's why I love this mask.  It mildly exfoliates to help reveal new skin, as well as hydrates.  You can leave this mask on for as long as you'd like - and I do. Even when you wash it away, there's a serum that's left on your skin- which works great under makeup or as a leave-on for part of your bedtime routine.

- Cleansing with One Love Organics Vitamin B Cleanser.  I am ALL about oil cleansing.  365. All year long.  Oil cleansers dissolve makeup, removing a step for you in the evenings.  And they leave your skin hydrated.  More oil always.  Which brings me to my next point - 6 out of 7 days a week, I don't cleanse in the am.  I like to leave whatever work my skin was doing overnight alone.  I simply add toner + moisturizer, before applying makeup.  If I do cleanse in the am, it's because my skin is parched.  In that case, I'll use the Beautycounter Cleansing Balm.  It's a miracle worker.

- Toning with Osmia Organics Active Gel Toner and Little Barn Apothecary Aloe + Rosewater Balance Mist.  If you are skipping toner - that's probably the reason why you haven't learned to love oils/serums for moisturizing.  Toners create a neutral surface for your moisturizer and makeup.  Everything goes on better with a toner.  I use the OO Active Gel Toner after cleansing at night.  The LBA (or any other natural rosewater spray like this one or this one) has multiple uses.  Which is why it's my all-time favorite beauty product.  I spray my face before applying foundation, or directly on my foundation brush with my foundation.  (You will not believe how much smoother your foundation goes on!)  I also spray my face to set my makeup (avoiding eye makeup).  On top of foundation, bronzer and brush - it just makes everything kind of sink in and gives a more natural look.  I also spray rosewater throughout the day, when I need extra hydration.  It is a MUST.

- Moisturizing with oils.  I am super obsessed with Vintner's Daughter.  The creator worked tirelessly to come up with a hero product, using all natural oils.  I can feel this product working on my face and literally notice a difference.  Worth every penny.  I love oils, but one thing I have missed since transitioning to clean beauty is creams.  Creams are rare in the clean beauty world because conventional lotions are made with so many cheap, toxic preservatives and binding agents.  I love a cream consistency in the wintertime and I use One Love Organics Skin Dew or Osmia Organics Purely Simple Face Cream.  Both of which, I mix with the magical Osmia Organics Nectar.  **Whichever moisturizers you choose, make sure you bring them down your neck to your chest!

- Don't forget the eyes and lips!  The product that has most helped my dark circles is the Maya Chia Eye Achiever.  Hands down.  It works.  For tone (fine lines and brightness), I love 100% Pure Coffee Bean Eye Cream (really inexpensive too - $15 for .3 oz).  And when my eyes just feel so dry, the Beautycounter Rejeuvenating Eye Cream.  It's like a big drink of water for my eyes!  For winter lips, my faves are Osmia Organics Lip DoctorRevive Lip Balm (inexpensive), Oy-l for bedside table and Henne Organics Lip Tint ($10 OFF) for a color option.

Happy Hydrating!
